Biography Magiba has started as a
group in1979. The founder was Torben Liljeroth and he has conducted the
orchestra since it has started, i.e. for more than 20 years. Torben has played
the mandolin since he was young, but now he spends all his time conducting.
Apart from Magiba, Torben is also conducting Brønshøj Husum Mandolin Orchestra
- another mandolin orchestra of less than ten members, still remaining in
Denmark. During it's lifetime the
orchestra has preferred to play popular and modern music from all over the world,
preferably music, which is not played by other traditional mandolin orchestras,
although we include some traditional mandolin music. It has always been a medium
size orchestra - 10-14 members - and with a rather stable group of players. 3 of
the members have been with the orchestra since the beginning in 1979. So it is
an orchestra which is playing very well together, with a good precision and
dynamics. During the years
Magiba has maked concerts 5-6 times in the UK (Bristol and London) and
two times in Germany and one time in Spain. In Denmark we have of course played
in many places including festivals, own concerts and charity arrangements of all
kinds. The group today consists of
15 players plus the conductor, playing the following instruments: 5 first mandolins, 4 second mandolins, 2 guitars, 2
mandolas, 1 bass and 1 accordion. |
